Textile Assistant Designer

Job Description

Are you motivated and enthusiastic? Do you love all the little (and big!) ways designers can make the world a more beautiful place? Are you ready to be a part of the development and design of new soft home goods for our growing business?

Under the management of our Design Director, you will assist in developing and creating new designs to produce products that reflect market trends and match our customer needs.  This position needs someone who can manage sometimes competing priorities and solve unique problems in a fast-paced work environment while maintaining deadlines that may require deliverables from others. You will need to be very detail oriented, and unafraid to (politely) push to keep projects on schedule. Your meticulous organizational talents will be a major asset.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelors' degree in Art and Design or related field.

  • Proficiency in CAD using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and NedGraphics.

  • Proficiency in common business applications including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

  • A strong color, print and pattern sense.

  • A strong ability to create original designs reflecting the current trends.

As our new assistant designer, your responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting design team in gathering market data on key fashion trends, including fabrication, material, color and design.

  • Assisting designers in creating and/or editing repeating patterns and colorways for bedding, home decor and decorative accessories.

  • Creating presentation boards for customers and sales teams.

  • Managing deadlines, ensuring projects and presentations are completed on time.

  • Preparing prints and colors to be sent to mills for production.

  • Communicating with Asia team to track and maintain fabric and sample development.

  • Assisting designers in inspecting and approving samples for production.

  • Maintaining color standard and fabric libraries.

We need a creative Type A... someone who is a perfect balance of left and right-brained thinking. With a positive attitude, creative design sense, and strong organizational skills, we're sure you'll be a perfect fit for our team!

Berkshire Blanket can promise you an outlet for your creativity, a dynamic and interesting working environment, and colleagues who laugh easily and know how to have fun. The salary range for this position is $35,000 - $45,000 depending on your level of experience.

Required soft skills:

  • Organizing oneself meticulously.

  • Independence and self-motivation to stay on top of both regular and long-term projects, while prioritizing to manage task-based assignments as needed.

  • Eagerness to learn and expand your skill set to support our design team, and to adapt as the position evolves with changing trends and needs.

  • Positive attitude, collaborative demeanor - we have fun here!
